RHPL Storytimes – Join Us!
Research shows that Library Storytimes deliver many benefits to all participants. Visiting the library, attending Storytimes, and borrowing books helps support school readiness in preschoolers.
Books for Babies
It’s never too early – or too late – to start reading with your child. The RHPL Books for Babies program provides a free “Welcome Baby” picture book and literacy kit to families with newborns. Drop into the any RHPL Branch to pick up your very own Books for Babies kit.
A Visit to the Library with your Preschooler
The Children’s Department has materials for babies and children up to Grade 8. Come and visit us and find books on a wide variety of topics. Choose from picture books for preschoolers, beginner reader books for Grades 1 to 3 and novels for older children. A varied selection of books on different subjects provides interesting information for general reading and projects. Also, we have a growing collection of eBooks for children of all ages, accessible online from home or via the Internet at the Library. Visit us to access our Parenting Collection, DVDs, magazines, kits (books and CDs), preschool puzzles, literacy computer games, board games, and free Wi-Fi service.
Talking, Singing, Reading, Writing, and Playing at RHPL Storytimes
The American Library Association has identified sets of early literacy skills and practices in their parent education initiative called Every Child Ready to Read @ Your Library (ECRR). The ECRR guidelines are followed when planning the content and delivery of each RHPL storytime. The goal is to use the five early literacy practices, “Talking, Singing, Reading, Writing, and Playing” in storytimes to support the development of strong early literacy skills at home, and beyond!
Stories on Wheels – Storytimes in the Richmond Hill Community
RHPL connects with the community by delivering storytimes at Daycares, Preschools, and Ontario Early Years Centres. Contact Central Library to book a visit. Or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
